The client came to SGS Surfacing asking for a solution to “freshen up” the tired tarmac driveway leading to their house near Horsham. As the existing driveway was already in good, solid condition it was quite simple and straightforward for us.
The client was in a position where the budget was limited as they were looking to move, but also understood a small short-term investment like this would prove to be a beneficial longer-term investment.
We started by weed-killing the area 2 weeks prior to work commencing. We then scraped and shaped the area as required, removing any loose debris that was gathered. Levels were then taken, making sure that the surface water drained off of the driveway into the natural stream that flows freely through the grounds of the property. Smooth granite setts were laid as a solid demarcation of the property boundary and also to retain the driveway.
The next step was to supply and lay 40mm-50mm thick of surface course asphalt to the driveway area forming a new even sound surface for the next stage.
The final stage was surface-dressing the complete area using a cold VLS liquid Bitumen and finished with 6mm shingle which is bedded into the VLS liquid and rolled. This finish was ideal for the client. Their freshened driveway worked within their budget and was very aesthetically pleasing, as it blended and complimented the countryside surroundings around the property.
