Sophie Gosden Headteacher – The Mill Primary Academy
At SGS Surfacing, we take great pride in transforming outdoor spaces. In this project, we resurfaced a primary school in West Sussex, making it safer and more functional for pupils, staff and parents to enjoy.
We had the pleasure of working at The Mill Primary Academy in Crawley. We were tasked with resurfacing the school grounds, replacing the old worn paving with lovely new tarmac footpaths.
Our team got to work, removing the old and tired paving slab areas and replacing them with beautiful new tarmac footpaths that seamlessly blended with the surrounding areas. We carried out a range of services to achieve this, including porous tarmacking, general tarmacking, relaying drainage pipes, constructing acodrains, laying block pavers, granite setts, and resin bonding. The project also involved complete road construction, including excavation, installing membranes, and type 3 backfilling and compacting. Check out the impressive mound of rubble after excavation, all ready for recycling in picture 5.
Thanks to our hard work, the school now has a safer, more functional, and aesthetically pleasing outdoor space for students and staff to enjoy.

We had a team of 7 SGS workers here headed by Lorne who is in charge of the team and also site foreman. The whole team work very hard, there’s no standing around idly. They started when they said they would and were here daily from 7:30 am to 4 pm and they completed the contract on time.
They had a difficult task to manage working around allowing continued access to 4 properties and they did that efficiently
The quality of the workmanship was excellent, when problems arose along the line (there were very few) they always ensured they pre-discussed solutions with me and there were no cost overruns.
I would recommend them highly. As a property developer with 40 years experience, letting tarmacking contracts is always a worry because there are so many cowboys in the business but SGS are thoroughly professional, efficient and conscious of achieving a high-quality standard of finish. I really couldn’t fault them and they are also very personable and friendly individuals.
So in summary I’d give them a 5-star rating.
