Project Overview

Wrapping up the summer holidays, we successfully completed a major playground resurfacing project at Thomas A Becket School in Worthing, West Sussex, in partnership with Cheesmur Building Contractors. This was our final school project of the break, delivered on time and ready for the return of students and staff, ensuring a safe and fresh start to the new term.

Scope of Works

Covering 1,238 m², the project involved:

Removal of existing surface arisings and adjustment of all ironwork
Installation of plain off 25 mm base course
Application of K140 tack coat for superior adhesion
Hand laying of AC10 surface course asphalt at 25 mm
Allowance of 25 tonnes of additional material to regulate the surface

Challenges & Solutions

Tight timeline: Completion needed before the start of term; careful planning and teamwork ensured all work was finished on schedule.
Surface regulation: The addition of 25 tonnes of material allowed precise leveling for a smooth, safe finish.
Safety & site management: Ironwork adjustments and careful removal of existing surfaces ensured the site was safe for students and staff immediately after completion.
