Project Overview

SGS Surfacing recently completed a resurfacing project in Horley, successfully delivering the works despite challenging weather conditions throughout the week.

The project involved excavation, sub-base preparation, ironwork adjustments, and the installation of new asphalt surfacing across an area of approximately 75 m². Careful preparation and attention to detail throughout the process ensured a clean, durable, and long-lasting finish.

The Finished Project

Scope of Works

Excavation & Preparation

  • Excavated and removed the existing tarmac surface and tree roots from the work area.
  • Graded and prepared the existing sub-base to achieve suitable levels and stability.

Membrane & Sub-Base Installation

  • Installed membrane across the prepared area.
  • Installed 50 mm primary Type 1 material to strengthen and stabilise the formation.

Ironwork Adjustments

  • Adjusted existing ironwork where required to suit the new finished surface levels.

Surfacing Installation

  • Hand laid AC20 Dense Binder at 50 mm thickness.
  • Hand laid AC10 Red Dense Binder at 30 mm thickness.

Completed Area

  • Total resurfacing area completed: 75 m².

Outcome

Despite difficult weather conditions, the project was completed successfully with minimal disruption and to a high standard of workmanship.

Through effective preparation, quality materials, and experienced installation techniques, SGS Surfacing delivered a durable and visually clean finish suitable for long-term performance.
