Project Overview

SGS Surfacing recently completed a domestic driveway transformation in Horsham using the impressive Necker Island Resin Bound system supplied by Vuba.

The project involved full excavation, drainage improvements, sub-base construction, asphalt installation, and the application of a high-quality resin bound finish across a total area of approximately 79.5 m², including agreed extensions to the original footprint.

This project highlights the importance of carrying out each stage of the installation process correctly. High-quality finishes are achieved through solid groundwork, careful preparation, and attention to detail throughout every phase of the works.

Scope of Works

Excavation & Preparation

  • Excavated the existing driveway and pathway to an approximate depth of 350 mm across the full working area.
  • Removed all excavated materials from site for appropriate disposal and recycling.

Drainage Installation

  • Installed a vehicular-grade membrane across the prepared formation.
  • Installed a perforated land drain to improve drainage performance and assist with water management.

Edge Restraints & Structural Works

  • Installed 150 mm concrete cobbles and levelled accordingly.
  • Installed granite setts to all unsupported edges, laid onto full concrete beds for stability and durability.
  • Installed a recessed manhole cover to blend seamlessly with the finished surface.

Sub-Base Construction

  • Finished the sub-base using primary grade Type 3 aggregate, laid and compacted at 75 mm thickness to provide a stable permeable foundation suitable for resin bound surfacing.

Surfacing Installation

  • Hand laid AC20 open course binder at 50 mm thickness.
  • Installed a BBA-approved Resin Bound Gravel system in the colour Necker Island supplied by Vuba.

Outcome

The completed driveway delivered a clean, modern, and durable finish that significantly improved the appearance and functionality of the property.

By focusing on each stage of the installation process – from excavation and drainage through to final surfacing, SGS Surfacing ensured a high-quality end result built to perform long term.

We were extremely pleased with the finished project, and most importantly, the client was delighted with their new driveway.
