Access Road Upgrade at The Mount Camphill Community, East Sussex

Project Overview

Our team recently completed the construction of a 903 m² access road at The Mount Camphill Community in Wadhurst. The project delivered a solid, high-quality road surface, improving access around the site and providing a long-lasting solution for vehicles and pedestrians alike.

Key Highlights:

  • Completed a 903 m² access road with a strong, smooth, and durable finish
  • Improved accessibility and safety across the community site
  • Reinforced low areas to prevent future wear and maintain longevity
  • Waste materials fully removed, leaving a clean, finished site

Scope of Works

The project involved extensive groundwork and surfacing, including:

  • Scraping and shaping the entire road, removing high spots, identifying edges, and grading where required
  • Laying a bed of aggregate followed by installation of 300 mm perforated pipe into the ditch system
  • Backfilling with shingle, then applying compacted layers of Type 1 aggregate
  • Grading Type 1 aggregate to regulate low areas and reinforce as required
  • Application of K140 tack coat for superior asphalt adhesion
  • Machine-laying AC32 dense binder at 80 mm for a 220 m low section
  • Machine-laying AC20 dense binder at 70 mm across the remaining area
  • Full removal of all waste materials generated on site

Technical Considerations

Due to site conditions, assumptions regarding sub-base suitability were made to ensure smooth project delivery. Careful grading and reinforcement of low areas were crucial to achieve a durable, even surface.

Team & Community Engagement

A big thank you to the site team for their hard work and dedication. Our progress was even watched over by two very cute local “helpers,” adding a touch of encouragement to the project!

Outcome

The Mount Camphill Community access road project highlights our ability to combine expert groundwork, precise grading, and high-quality asphalt surfacing to deliver long-lasting, functional infrastructure. The completed road not only improves access but also enhances the overall usability and appearance of the site.
